Steve Schmitt

stevenschmittSteve Schmitt is an Oelwein native who graduated from UNI in 1973 and has lived in Waterloo ever since.  He has spent the last 25 years in the telecommunications industry: Teleconnect; McLeodUSA;  started Schmitt Telecom Partners, Inc. in 2001 becoming part of Advanced Systems in 2016 where he serves as Vice-President, Telecommunications.

Steve is  involved in many civic organizations, serves on boards, and gives his time volunteering. Some of the places he serves include: Boy Scouts of America, Boys and Girls Club, Birthright, Greater Cedar Valley Alliance Ambassadors, Cedar Valley Arboretum, Mainstreet Waterloo, National Cattle Congress, Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, Salvation Army, Waterloo Jaycees, Waterloo Downtown Rotary Club, WCF Symphony Orchestra, Water Works, Planning and Zoning, Board of Adjustment, Community Development, Leisure Services. In addition, Steve is a 20-year Mentor in Waterloo Public Schools, and works with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Teammates, Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, CVYSA soccer coach, Leisure Services baseball, softball and basketball coach. 

Steve believes  sound business practices and principals in local government is beneficial to all Waterloo citizens.  He is married to wife Jana and has 6 children and 4 grandchildren.
