Steven J. Schmitt
Steve Schmitt is an Oelwein native who graduated from UNI in 1973 and has lived in Waterloo ever since. He had a seven year career with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in Waterloo and then entered the telecommunications industry with Teleconnect. He has spent the last 25 years in sales management with Teleconnect, McLeodUSA and started Schmitt Telecom Partners, Inc. in 2001, which is headquartered in downtown Waterloo. He is currently the President of Schmitt Telecom.
Steve is married to Jana and has six children and two grandchildren.
He is very involved in various civic organizations and is a former President of the Waterloo Jaycees and the Downtown Waterloo Rotary Club, President-elect of the Waterloo Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra and Vice-President of the Boys and Girls Club of Black Hawk County. He is a Board member of the Winnebago Boy Scouts, Birthright and Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Council. Steve has mentored in various Waterloo Public Schools for 12 years and is a member of the Elks, Greater Cedar Valley Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and Knights of Columbus.
Steve is serving his first term as Waterloo At-Large City Councilman and believes putting sound business practices and principals in effect in local government will be beneficial to all our citizens.
