University Avenue Construction

July 5, 2019 - The City of Waterloo and the contractor are continuing to work on the reconstruction of the University Avenue Reconstruction Project Phases 1 and 2 from Midway Drive to Evergreen Avenue.

During the week of July 8, 2019, Progress Drive will be closed between University Avenue and the north frontage road. During this time, access to Progress Drive north of University Avenue will be at Access B (Tunis) and the north frontage road.  

During the week of July 8, 2019, University Avenue traffic will remain shifted head-to-head from west of Midway Drive to Sager Avenue.  The University Avenue head-to-head traffic will be on westbound lanes (north side) from Midway Drive to Greenhill Road and on the eastbound lanes (south side) from Greenhill Road to Sager Avenue. Progress Avenue south of University Avenue, Access A (Casey’s Frontage Rd), and Falls Avenue north of University Avenue will remain closed.

The contractor will continue to work on both Phases 1 and 2.  During this time, University Avenue will remain open and access to the frontage roads will remain. Please see the maps showing the construction zone highlighted for next week.

For safety purposes, please stay away from the construction area. Heavy equipment will be moving back and forth on the closed lanes. It would be advisable to stay behind the sidewalk on the property side during the reconstruction work.

On Tuesday, October 17 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., the City of Waterloo conducted a Public Information Meeting to discuss the status of the University Avenue Project and to present the preliminary design for improvements that are being considered. This project extends from Midway Drive to U.S. 63 in Waterloo, Iowa.
