Prior to becoming a Section 8 participant, the tenant has to fill out an application and is required to be put on a waiting list. When the tenant's name comes to the top of the waiting list, the tenant is briefed, if eligible.

Briefings
A briefing session must be attended prior to the tenants receiving rent assistance. The meeting lasts approximately 1 to 2 hours. When finished with the briefing, the tenant is then allowed to find a unit. The unit has to pass a Housing Quality Standards (HQS) inspection.
