Housing Inspections

The Housing Inspection Division is responsible for the enforcement of Waterloo"s Housing Code for all rental housing with-in the City of Waterloo. The purpose of this code is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of all occupants. Systematic inspections are made of all rental properties every five years and on a complaint basis. Vacant, dilapidated housing is inspected and ordered to be repaired or demolished depending on the condition of the dwelling. Waterloo Fire Rescue personnel also board up properties that are standing open and present a nuisance hazard.

The inspections made by the Housing Inspection Division of Waterloo Fire Rescue require the maintenance and improvement of the City's existing housing to ensure safe living conditions, protect values, and maintain the appearance and stability of the community and the neighbors we serve.
