LIEUTENANT TOM POWERS
Tom became a Waterloo Fire Rescue Fire Fighter on November 5, 1979 and was promoted to his current position of Lieutenant on April 3, 1989. He is a certified EMT and Hazmat Team member . Tom carries out his duties as a Lieutenent at Station #8, which is located at 1812 LaPorte Road. He also serves on the department's Labor/Management Committee and Safety Committee, He served in the U.S. Navy, specializing in hydraulic systems. He is the current President of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local Union #66 and coordinates community safety programs, particularly to school-aged children. Tom volunteers for several Waterloo community projects. He received the Mayor's Volunteer Award and was selected as the department's Fire Fighter of the Year in 1986. He involves his wife and three children with many of his off-duty activities.
