Lead Safe Work Practices
Hazmat Regional Training Center
1925 Newell Street, Waterloo, IA
We will be hosting workshops for Contractors, landlords and maintenance people, and homeowners working on Community Development Rehabilitation projects or SECTION 8 Tenant-Based Assistance rehabilitation work in the near future. This workshop is open to the general public and pre-registration with pre-payment is required.
You MUST be trained in Lead Safe Work Practices if you perform lead hazard reduction or rehabilitation work that disturbs painted surfaces known or assumed to contain lead-based paint. This training is required in order to work on HUD-funded programs for rehabilitation or Section 8 Assistance.
In order to repair painted surfaces, do paint stabilization, interim controls and standard treatments when the area of paint being disturbed is greater than: Twenty (20) square feet in exterior surface: or Two (2) square feet in an interior room: or Ten percent (10%) of a building component with a small surface area (such as a painted window frame).
An individual must obtain a Certificate of Training in Lead-Safe Work Practices. To get this certificate, you need to complete 8 hours of classroom training which includes a forty (40) question written test., The next 8-hour course will be announced later. There is nominal fee of $10.00 for the class to cover the cost of printed material. This class is limited to thirty (30) people.
Contact Mark Boesen or Christopher Leach at 319-291-4429 for questions or to request a registration form to sign up for the class.
