Waterloo Bridge Replacement Project

PARK AVENUE BRIDGE CLOSURE
  • Effective immediately (2-28-22), the Park Avenue Bridge will be closed to allow for utility work related to the bridge replacement project. The bridge will remain closed until the work is completed.  Motorists and pedestrians are not to move the barricades and access the closed area.
  • Effective on 4/11/2022 until spring/summer of 2024,  there will be posted detour routes for trail, sidewalk, water trail, and vehicles for the Park Avenue bridge replacement project. Click here to view in more detail.

11th STREET BRIDGE

  • Closure of the 11th Street Bridge is closed and is expected to reopen late fall of 2024.
Other areas in the city

  • Greenhill road from Maynard Ave to Katoski Drive will be under construction for the asphalt overlay program.
  • The City of Waterloo will begin activation of the inflatable dam on the Cedar River Monday, April 29, 2024. Due to river levels, the inflation will take several weeks to complete. At full inflation, the dam will raise the upstream river level by approximately four feet, allowing for more boating and river recreational activities. The dam can be lowered when river levels are high and individual sections may be lowered to clean out debris or log jams. The dam will remain inflated until October 2024, weather permitting.
  • Beginning Monday, April 22, various lane closures on Ansborough Avenue between University Ave to Blackhawk Road will be taking place to allow the City of Waterloo Street Department to perform joint repairs and replacement of pavement panels. At least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained during construction. Construction is expected to last approximately two weeks.
  • The Heartland Hills Area Water Main Replacement project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 1. This includes all of Heartland Hills Drive, Jodi Drive, Mark Drive, Jill Drive, Matthew Drive, and part of Aspen Drive. It is anticipated that this project will take 2-3 months but has a completion date of September 30, 2024. Updates will be sent out for actual road closures.
  • On Tuesday, April 2nd, the Broadway Street Reconstruction Project will begin. Broadway Street (eastbound) will be closed from Hwy 218 Off ramp to Donald Street during Phase 1. There will be a detour in place.
  • The Shaulis Rd./La Porte Rd./Hess Rd. intersection will be closed beginning April 8. Access to the Isle Casino, Lost Island Waterpark, and Lost Island Themepark will only be from Hwy 218 at the signaled intersection.
  • The Kingley Avenue Reconstruction Project is tentatively scheduled to start Monday, April 8th. Construction will be from Euclid Street to Moir Street.
