From 1891, when Waterloo boosters lured the Rath family to the banks of the Cedar River, to 1985, Rath was one the leading companies in Iowa’s “factory city.” At its peak, in the 1940s and 1950s, Rath also was one of Iowa’s largest employers. Read More (pdf)   








On November 22, 2022 the City of Waterloo will be submitting a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields Cleanup Grant application for the former Rath Building located at 1442 Sycamore Street in Black Hawk County, Waterloo, IA.

The City will have a copy of the application, as well as an Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup Alternatives, available for public review and comment. Comments regarding the application can be submitted to the City of Waterloo, Community Planning and Development at 715 Mulberry Street, Waterloo, Iowa 50703 by November 11, 2022.
