City of Waterloo to Host Fair Chance Initiative Training

CITY OF WATERLOO TO HOST FAIR CHANCE INITIATIVE TRAINING
Waterloo Business Owners and Human Resource professional are encouraged to attend.


The City of Waterloo is hosting a training webinar for Waterloo business owners and human resources professionals to assist with compliance with the City’s Fair Chance Ordinance which goes into effect on July 1, 2020. The training will take place at 8:30am on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

The webinar will explain why the City of Waterloo enacted the ordinance and how hiring processes for Waterloo businesses may be impacted because of it. The presentation will provide actionable steps and resources to help companies comply with the ordinance.

The training will be led by Lauren Peterman, PHR, SHRM-CP, HR Specialist from PDCM Insurance and Kyle D. Roed, PHR, SHRM-CP, HR Director from CPM. The training is approved for SHRM and HRCI continuing education credits.

The ordinance was presented by the Waterloo Human Rights Commission and approved by the Waterloo City Council in October 2019.
“The Ordinance was passed to remove barriers to employment, reduce recidivism, and give a second chance to deserving Iowans,” says Mayor Quentin Hart.

“It is simply a good business practice that will help meet our ever increasing workforce needs,” adds Councilperson Sharon Juon, a supporter of the initiative and member of the initiatives education committee.
