Waterloo City Council approved Resolution No 2020-623 adopting a face mask mandate for the City of Waterloo. 

Monday, August 17th, 2020 the City of Waterloo City Council approved Resolution No 2020-623 resolution adopting a face mask mandate for the City of Waterloo.  This resolution takes place Tuesday, August 18th, 2020 and will be in effect for 6 weeks, but may be extended. Enforcement for this resolution shall be left up to the Mayor or designee with the aim towards compliance not punishment.

This resolution states that every person in the City of Waterloo must wear a face covering when in public and cannot stay six (6) feet apart from others. This includes when using public transportation or private car services. People are exempt when exercising, seated at a food establishment in the process of eating or drinking and obtaining a service that would require temporary removal of the persons face covering.

Waterloo business are asked to post signs at their entrances instructing customers of this resolution. 

There are some exceptions for those required to wear face coverings in the city of Waterloo.

  • Persons younger than 2 years of age due to the risk of suffocation.
  • Anyone who has trouble breathing, on oxygen therapy, or ventilator.
  • Anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove their face covering without assistance.
  • Anyone who has been told by a medical, legal, or behavioral health professional not to wear face coverings.
  • Anyone actively engaged in a public safety role, including but not limited to law enforcement, firefighters, or emergency medical personnel.
